Jakarta - Day 2

(This is a direct transcription from my diary). Today I bought a notebook at the mall where Sahm works. He had a morning tutoring assignment but was home before 10AM. I had a lovely swim in the pool, which is like a river winding between the buildings with blue tiles and little bridges and fibreglass staues of squirting turtles, terminating at either end in wading pools for children. Fragrant blossoms dropped from 'Kamboge' trees and all was nicely landscaped, the water about chest-deep and refreshing, few people around so it was fairly private. Many Chinese live in the complex, being more affluent, and other foreigners; the kids all have Indo nannies wandering around the halls.
Sahm's workplace, where we went around 2:00, is in another even more extensive mall, truly staggering in size. I was introduced to his co-workers, many of them charming and cheerful pretty girls; two were sporting their 'winter scarves' that I had brought at Sahm's request. Even though it's about 30 degrees they seem okay wearing lots of clothing, while I felt sweat emanating from every pore and searched desperately for a light cotton blouse - without success. I'll just have to get used to it! Had a good time, bent the girls' ears a bit telling my personal story (I have to stop doing that) and after a beer we headed home with Adam. My stomach reacted to the dinner, I hope it will go away, not serious but out of sorts.
I tend to wake up at 3-4 AM full of beans, and I am writing all of this on Thursday. I heard the moring falll to prayer an hour and a half ago. Have been poring over the guide books to see what's worth seeing at our destinations. Sahm has the day off today and we'll go sightseeing in Jakarta, a few museums. One of Sahm's students, Mary, offered us the use of her spare car and driver. I may accept, as I could then see Bogor Botanical gardens, which Sahm doesn't want to see again.
